Ravindra Jadeja Birthday - Records and Achievements in career
Mercurial Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja celebrates his 34th birthday today (December 06), and has achieved some unique feats in cricket over the years.
Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been one of the mainstays of the Indian team ever since making his Test debut in 2012. Although Jadeja came into the limelight for his exceptional run in the Indian Premier League for the Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural edition in 2008, he made his name for the Indian team in the longest format of the game.
With 242 wickets and over 2500 runs in red-ball cricket, Jadeja has been one of the most prolific all-rounders in India's illustrious history. His partnership with veteran offie Ravichandran Ashwin has surged India to numerous victories in Test cricket. However, the southpaw has elevated his game to the next level in the shorter formats of the game in the recent past, becoming an integral part of the Indian white-ball setup.
The Southpaw's recent absence due to an unfortunate injury has cost India dearly as the Men in Blue have struggled to replace the effervescent cricketer, leading to a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign in Australia.
On the eve of the mercurial all-rounder's 34th birthday, here are his records and achievements in international cricket:
1. Ravindra Jadeja was the deputy to a young Virat Kohli, who led India to a U-19 World Cup triumph in 2008.
2. Jadeja won the inaugural edition of the IPL with Rajasthan Royals in 2008, catching the eyes of the Indian selectors.
3. Jadeja was signed by Chennai Super Kings in the 2012 IPL player auction and has won two IPL titles with CSK (2018 & 2021).
4. He got his name into the record books after smashing RCB's Harshal Patel for 36 runs in an over in 2021, the joint-most runs by a batter in an over in IPL history.
5. The left arm-spinner has been a pivotal part of the CSK setup and has the second most wickets for the franchise in IPL with 105 scalps to his name.
6. Jadeja was the leading wicket-taker in India's triumphant 2013 Champions Trophy campaign with 12 wickets to his name. He was named the player of the match in the final after his 33* with the bat and match-winning 2/24 with the ball.
7. An exceptional all-rounder in every sense of the word, Jadeja is one of only three Indians to score 2000 runs and pick 150 wickets in ODIs. He is also one of only five Indians to score 2000 runs and pick 200 wickets in Tests.
8. Jadeja registered the highest score by an Indian at no.7 or lower in Tests after registering a swashbuckling 175* against Sri Lankan in March 2022.
9. Jadeja was named in the ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year on two occasions in 2013 and 2016. He is currently the no. 1 ranked Test all-rounder in the world.
