After beating Pakistan by five wickets in the last match of the Super 4 round, Sri Lanka faces the Men in Green again this time for the real battle. Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lankan team will lock horns with Babar Azam’s Pakistan in the ultimate final of the Asia Cup 2022 on a Super Sunday, September 11, 2022, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
Sri Lanka, who have lifted the Asia Cup trophy five times in their history, started off the competition with a disappointing loss to Afghanistan. But since then, the team has won four back-to-back matches, all of them while chasing. Two times winners Pakistan also suffered defeat in their opening fixture of the tournament against India, but then managed to seal three victories on the trot. An exciting and mouth-watering final contest awaits as both teams look to grab the Asian crown.

Veteran Pakistani batter Shoaib Malik has scored the most runs (397) in T20Is between the two teams. He is followed by his countryman Shahid Afridi who has 331 runs to his name with Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan occupying the third position for amassing 323 runs. In terms of wickets, yorker specialist Lasith Malinga leads the chart with 16 scalps followed by Afridi and Saeed Ajmal who have taken 14 wickets apiece. Pacer Umar Gul is in the third spot for picking up 13 wickets.

As mentioned above, Sri Lanka and Pakistan met just two days before the final on Friday at the same venue. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first. The Men in Green got bundled out for just 121 in 19.1 overs thanks to a solid spell from spinner Wanindu Hasaranga who took 3/21 in his four-over spell. Maheesh Theekshana and debutant Pramod Madushan also grabbed two wickets each. In reply, Pathum Nissanka’s great form continued as he made an unbeaten 55 off 48 to guide his side to a comfortable five-wicket victory.
