South Africa (SA) and the Netherlands (NED) locked horns in Match No. 15 of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala where the Dutch created history by claiming a memorable and sensational victory over the South Africans.

South Africa had made a strong start to their 2023 World Cup campaign as they won both of their opening two matches against Sri Lanka and Australia by comfortable margins. Their batting lineup had been particularly impressive, with Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller all scoring runs. The Proteas bowling attack also looked strong, led by Kagiso Rabada, with Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi in the first two encounters. But they were finally brought down to earth by Scott Edwards-inspired Netherlands side.

The Netherlands, after losing their first two games against Pakistan and New Zealand bounced back in some style at the picturesque Dharamsala stadium. The match got delayed and it begun with a 43-overs per side contest. The Proteas won the toss and elected to field first. Captain Edwards led his side from the front by smashing an unbeaten 78 as the Dutch reached a competitive total of 245/8.

In reply, David Miller and Keshav Maharaj scored 43 and 40 runs respectively while the others failed to contribute. The Dutch bowlers kept picking up wickets at regular intervals as the Proteas crumbled under pressure. Temba Bavuma and team got bundled out for 207 in 42.5 overs as the Netherlands sealed an unforgettable win. With this, the Men in Orange won their first WC encounter since the year 2007. Notably, the Africans lost their second successive game against the Dutch in ICC events having previously suffered defeat in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide.
