As the IPL 2024 goes into its last phase, two teams that are separated only by NRR will face each other in Match No. 57 of the tournament. Fourth-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and fifth-placed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will lock horns in Hyderabad. Both teams currently have 12 points from 11 matches, and this match will be crucial to both teams' fortunes as they only hang in the middle of the table.

The only scheduled fixture between these two teams comes at the most crucial juncture in the season for both of them. The loser of this game will put their playoff chances in serious jeopardy. Both these teams are also coming off dire losses in their respective last matches. This match starts a streak of three consecutive home matches for SRH, who have completed all their home matches, and three consecutive away games for LSG, who have finished all their home matches.

In their last match, which was at Lucknow, LSG lost by a completely comprehensive 98 runs to KKR who had put up the highest T20 total at Lucknow with help from Sunil Narine. Narine returned to share the spoils in a team bowling effort that took KKR to the top of the points table.

SRH were also beaten rather comprehensively in their last match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Travis Head and Pat Cummins added respectability to a total that was never going to be enough even though SRH gave themselves hope with early inroads. But Suryakumar Yadav's century completely stole the show as SRH slumped to a loss.

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium Pitch Report

Pitches that are not explicitly flat are ruling the norm in the second half of IPL 2024. The pitch at Hyderabad is also following this pattern, making batting not as easy as the early season made it seem. This is the same stadium where SRH piled 277, but that is only the exception. Even though 200 was posted in both innings in the last game, the pitch still poses enough challenges for the batters.

SRH vs LSG Strategies & Match-ups

Chasing seems to be a more favourable setting to be on as far as this pitch is concerned. There will be early movement, especially in the powerplay that will be tough for the batters to navigate. SRH's heavy batting seems to have mellowed down the last few matches, something that LSG can exploit.

SRH don't have the best track record chasing this season either and that will play an important role in this match. The important matchups for this match are KL Rahul vs Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marcus Stoinis vs Pat Cummins, Yash Thakur vs Travis Head, Mohsin Khan vs Abhishek Sharma, and Krunal Pandya vs Heinrich Klaasen, respectively.

Mayank Agarwal vs Marcus Stoinis

Mayank Agarwal's return to the SRH playing XI did not go as expected, and going by history, Marcus Stoinis looks to be the person who has the best chance of keeping that way. In 21 balls, Agarwal has scored 32 runs off Stoinis while being dismissed twice at a strike rate of 152.38 and an average of 16.

X-factors for SRH vs LSG

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

While he terrorized bowling lineups on flat pitches, Travis Head has also been SRH's most consistent batsman once the pitches slowed down. He will again need to bring his consistency to the table to ensure SRH's respectability with the bat.

Lucknow Super Giants:

Marcus Stoinis has been consistently delivering for LSG with both bat and ball, and he will be required to bring out the stops once again and save LSG's potentially debilitating fortunes.
