Stats: Arshdeep Singh 3 wickets away from becoming India's most successful T20I pacer

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is on the brink of surpassing a remarkable feat as Team India prepare to face South Africa in the second T20I, at St George's Park, Gqeberha, on Sunday. The 24-year-old speedster needs just three wickets to better Bhuvneshwar Kumar's record and become India's most successful fast bowler in T20Is.

Since his debut against England in July 2022, Arshdeep has impressed everyone with his skills. In just 57 T20Is, he has claimed 88 wickets and was also part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup title-winning team. This rapid growth puts him near Kumar's benchmark of 90 wickets, achieved over 87 matches. In fact, he is on the verge of equalizing the wickets count tally with none other the premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah.

During the T20I series opener, Arshdeep Singh was in a good bowling rhythm. Notably, he picked up a wicket for 25 runs. His current wicket tally places him third among Indian pacers in T20Is, with only Jasprit Bumrah (89 wickets) and Bhuvneshwar ahead of him.

While Bhuvneshwar took 87 matches to reach his mark, Arshdeep Singh is also on the verge of surpassing it in 30 fewer games. The upcoming match is another opportunity for Arshdeep to break a record in the India-South Africa T20I rivalry.

With 11 wickets against the Proteas in seven matches, he needs four wickets to overtake Bhuvneshwar's record of 14 wickets in India-South Africa T20Is. Only South African spinner Keshav Maharaj (13 wickets) stands between them in this specific record.
