Stats: Can Deepak Chahar get in-form Shubman Gill in IPL 2023 final?
Chennai Super Kings will take on Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad.
The final of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will witness the battle between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28. The four-time champions advanced to the IPL 2023 final after defeating GT in Qualifier 1, whereas the Hardik Pandya-led side secured their spot in the summit clash with a comfortable win over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the second qualifier match.
Both Chennai and Gujarat will seek to win the title in the lucrative league. The MS Dhoni-led side will be looking to win the title for the fifth-time to tie the record of MI while Gujarat aim for winning the title for the second time on the trot.
Young opener Shubman Gill is one of the standout performers of the reigning champions. He scored three centuries and four fifties in the ongoing season and currently tops the IPL 2023 Orange Cap list, with 851 runs to his name. However, eyes will be on him to see whether he can repeat his exploits in the final game as well.
Notably, the batter struggles against Chennai’s star pacer Deepak Chahar in the cash-rich league and failed to get going against the swing bowler in Qualifier 1 as well. The 23-year-old was dismissed by Chahar after he scored 42 off 38 deliveries. Gill has scored 63 runs off 47 balls against Chahar in IPL, being dismissed thrice.
Meanwhile, Chahar has had a spectacular season so far after returning to the IPL after recovering from an injury. Despite missing some of the games for CSK this season, he has been instrumental in many of the team's victories. The 30-year-old has picked up 12 wickets from nine matches so far this season, with an average of 21.58 and an economy rate of 8.63.
