Stats: Virat Kohli first player to complete 100 thirty-plus scores in IPL history
Kohli got his half-century off 40 balls against Punjab Kings on April 20.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli attained yet another historic milestone during the clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on April 20 as he notched up his 100th thirty-plus score in the tournament.
PBKS stand-in skipper Sam Curran decided to put the visiting team to bat first upon winning the toss. Interestingly, Kohli stood in as the captain of RCB as regular Faf du Plessis is nursing a rib injury and will not be fielding.
Meanwhile, Kohli engraved himself in history as he became the first player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to score 100 thirty-plus scores in the tournament. Kohli breached another impressive milestone as he completed 600 fours in the competition. The right-handed batter took the responsibility of leading the side after 556 days, as he last captained the team on October 11, 2021.
Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner in top three on the list
Notably, Punjab Kings’ regular skipper Shikhar Dhawan makes it to the list as he has amassed thirty-plus scores as many as 91 times. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner has 90 such scores to his name and is third on the elite list with Dhawan and Kohli.
Kohli attained the historic milestone in 221 innings whereas Dhawan holds his record, having played 209 innings. Warner has got 90 thirty-plus scores in mere 167 innings in the lucrative T20 competition. India and Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma is fourth on the list with 85 such scores in 227 innings in the top-tier league while former Chennai Super Kings batter Suresh Raina is on teh fifth spot, with 77 such scores in 200 innings.
