Stats: Yuzvendra Chahal concedes most sixes in IPL history
Yuzvendra Chahal finished IPL 2024 with 18 wickets from 15 matches at an average of 30.33.
Yuzvendra Chahal went on to register an unwanted record on Friday, May 24, during Rajasthan Royals' (RR) Qualifier 2 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The veteran leg-spinner became the bowler with the most number of sixes hit off his bowling in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Rajasthan suffered a 36-run defeat and crashed out of the tournament.
Chahal, who is the all-time leading wicket-taker in the IPL, finished with figures of 0/34 in his four overs on a pitch that aided spinners. His indifferent performance didn't help Rajasthan's cause as the inaugural champions allowed Sunrisers to post a challenging total of 175/9 in their 20 overs on a tricky surface. During his spell, Chahal conceded three sixes. This took his tally of sixes conceded in IPL to 224. He went past another seasoned leg-spinner - Piyush Chawla's record of 222 sixes.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja (206) and Ravichandran Ashwin (202) come in the third and fourth spots respectively on the list of bowlers with the most sixes hit against their bowling.
Chahal was hit for 30 sixes in IPL 2024. This is the second-most number of sixes conceded by a bowler in a particular edition of the cash-rich league. Had he been hit for one more maximum, he would have equalled Mohammed Siraj's tally of 31 sixes, which he conceded in IPL 2022.
