Courtesy of Narayan Jagadeesan’s stellar performance with the bat against Arunachal Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, Tamil Nadu have registered the highest team total in the history of List A cricket.
Their openers Jagadeesan and Sai Sudharsan amassed a total of 416 runs for first wicket. The wicket-keeper batter Jagadeeshan alone smashed 277 runs off 141 deliveries, and became the highest individual run-scorer in the history of List A cricket. Sai Sudarshan, on the other hand, scored 154 runs off 102 deliveries and on the back of their incredible performances, Tamil Nadu put 506 runs on board after 50 overs and became the only team in the cricketing history to score 500 plus runs in this format of the game.
Now, even though the duo lost their wickets after a phenomenal start, Tamil Nadu had no problem whatsoever in keeping up with the momentum. With Baba Aparajith and Baba Indrajith at the crease, Tamil Nadu absolutely dominated the first innings of the match.

Tamil Nadu on Monday broke the world record of England scoring the highest ever team total in 50-over cricket. Earlier in the year, the Three Lions decimated the Netherlands scoring 498 runs at Amstelveen. The trio of Phil Salt (122), David Malan (125) and Jos Buttler (162*) were phenomenal as England posted a hefty total on the board. The Dutch batters fought hard with the bat but could score only 266 uns, which helped England win the match by 232 runs.
Surrey comes third in the list following their 496 runs against Gloucestershire in April 2007. The openers James Benning (152) and Alastair Brown (176) led the foundation, which helped Surrey post 496 in 50 overs. Rikki Clarke’s cameo of 82 runs of 28 deliveries too helped Surrey post that total, which eventually was the highest team total in the history of List A cricket for 15 long years. Coming to the match, Surrey defeated Gloucestershire by 257 runs.
England’s 481 runs against Australia in 2018 was the highest team total in international cricket for four years. England’s top order went berserk in the match as Jason Roy smashed 82, Bairstow 139 and batting at number three, Alex Hales scored 147 runs from 92 deliveries. Captain Eoin Morgan later chipped in with 67 runs from 30 deliveries. In return, Australia struggled to cope up and eventually lost the match by 242 runs.
The Indian A team comes fifth in the list of highest team totals in List A cricket. Against Leicestershire in 2018, the trio of Prithvi Shaw (132), Mayank Agarwal (151) and Shubman Gill (86) hammered the Leicestershire bowlers, scoring 458 runs after 50 overs and won the match 281 runs.
