Star Australia batter Travis Head was at his explosive best yet again on Day 2 of the ongoing Adelaide Test. Notably the game is a Day-night affair featuring India as opponents in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25). On Saturday, in his usual fashion, tormented the Indian bowling lineup with his free-flowing stroke-making.
At one stage, when Australia (AUS) had gained a slight lead over Team India, Head stepped up the ante and kept the scoreboard ticking. After the dismissal of Steve Smith, the 30-year-old took matters into his hands and blasted his way to another world record-breaking century in day-night Test history. Bettering his previous 112-ball stay, this time Head reached the milestone a ball quicker. Moreover, during his stay at the crease, the Adelaide-born smashed four sixes and 17 boundaries, respectively.
As a result, Travis Head scored 140 runs off 141 balls and ended up surpassing the former Australia batting and wicketkeeping legend, Adam Gilchrist, in the elite list of six hitters against India. Notably, en route to his century, Head finished with 12 sixes until now while Gilchrist has hit 10 sixes. While speaking of the overall six-hitting fest tally, batting stalwart turned commentator, Matthew Hayden leads the list with 24 sixes. The next best happens to be 10 sixes away in the form of Michael Clarke with 14 sixes to his name.
Travis Head's century puts Australia in driver’s seat
Meanwhile, speaking of the ongoing pink ball Test, riding high on Travis Head’s magnificent century, Australia finished with a huge lead of 157 runs over India. Their second innings finished with 337 runs. Head’s run fest came to an end after pacer Mohammed Siraj bowled an absolute scorcher to clean him up.
During his adventurous knock, he got lucky twice while batting in his 70s as he was dropped twice. First Siraj failed to take a hard chance off Ravichandran Ashwin’s delivery and then a thick edge went past Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma through to the first slip. In reply, Team India yet again had a dismal start as they lost both the openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal early on.
