R Ashwin has now the most five-for (33) amongst the active players in Test cricket
Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed his 33rd five-wicket haul while openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on an unbeaten 80-run stand as team India dominated Day 1 of the opening Test match against West Indies at Windsor Park, Roseau in Dominica. Ashwin picked up figures of 5/60 while Ravindra Jadeja took 3/26 as the home side got bowled out cheaply for just 150.
Speaking about how the day panned out, captain Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and elected to bat first. He got dismissed for 20 while his opening partner Tagenarine Chanderpaul got out for 12 with both falling prey to Ashwin. Raymon Reifer and Jermaine Blackwood failed to contribute as they managed to score two and 14 respectively. Debutant Alick Athanaze was impressive in his first outing in Test cricket as he racked up 47 off 99 before losing his wicket to Ashwin.
The home side struggled to get going as their poor run in international cricket continued. In reply, the visitors made a solid start as skipper Rohit amassed 30* off 65 while debutant Jaiswal also impressed as he remained not out on 40 off 73. The Asian giants ended on 80 for no loss as they took complete control of the opening day. Both the Indian openers will look to extend their partnership on the second day, which lays a solid platform for the incoming middle-order batters.
