After beating team India by a margin of four runs in the opening encounter, West Indies now face the Asian giants in the second of the five-match T20 international series on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The third game will also be played at the same venue on August 8, before the action moves to Lauderhill, Florida, in the United States of America (USA).

Speaking in detail about the series opener, the home side batted first and posted a decent total of 149/6 on the board.  The wicketkeeper batter, Nicholas Pooran, and skipper, Rovman Powell, struck 41 and 48 runs, respectively, as they took their side to a total of above 145. In what looked like an easy run-chase, the visitors made a mess of it by falling just short of the target.

Openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill bagged single-digit scores while Suryakumar Yadav made a run-a-ball 21. Debutant Tilak Varma impressed with his knock of 39 off 22 but it wasn’t enough as the tourists ended up with 145/9. Tall seamer Jason Holder was the pick of the West Indies bowlers for his spell of 2/19 (4). Hardik Pandya and his side will look to bounce back and snatch a victory in the second T20I to level the series 1-1.
