Chloe Tryon’s quick-fire fifty, helped South Africa beat India by five wickets to be crowned the champions at the Buffalo Park in East London on Thursday on a tricky pitch.
Speaking about the finals, the Harmanpreet-led India batted first on a tricky surface but the decision backfired as they lost both the openers inside the powerplay with the score reading, 21/2. However, Harleen Deol and Harmanpreet Kaur stitched a partnership of 48 runs for the third wicket, but the run rate less than six lead to Kaur being out stumped in 15th over while trying to slog the ball.
Deepti Sharma scored 16 runs at the strike rate of over 100 to help the team push to the three figures total of 109/4 in 20 overs.
During the run chase, South African top order could not withstand the Indian spin dominance on a tricky surface. At one stage, the hosts were struggling at 47/4 inside 11 overs. It looked like India’s game until Chloe Tryon entered into the action. Tryon smashed Indian bowlers all over the ground and scored 57 runs off just 32 balls to take her side home.
