The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has shortened the home series against Pakistan, dropping a T20I from the five-match series. The series, which was earlier scheduled to start on July 27, will now get underway a day later, on July 28. The alteration comes in the backdrop of Australia’s ongoing tour of the West Indies, where a positive Covid-19 case had pushed back the second ODI.
The third ODI against Australia is now set to be played on July 26, followed by the first T20I against Pakistan on July 28. The subsequent T20Is will be on July 31, August 1 and August 3 at Providence Stadium in Guyana. The two Tests will start on August 12 and 20, at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
Ricky Skerritt, CWI President said: “Together with the PCB, CWI has examined various scenarios, and we jointly agreed that the best solution in the present circumstances is to cancel the first T20I and play a four-match T20I series starting on Wednesday and keep the rest of the tour schedule unchanged.”
“We want to express our gratitude to the PCB Chairman, Ehsan Mani and CEO, Wasim Khan, and the Pakistan team for their understanding in this situation and for agreeing to the revised match schedule. Both teams are in the final stages of preparing for the ICC T20 World Cup, so we anticipate an exciting and entertaining series of games as both teams compete for Osaka Presents PSO Carient T20 Cup.”
The two-time World Champions West Indies are using this series as part of the preparation for the next ICC T20 World Cup, which will be played from October 17 to November 14 in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. They are fresh after a 4-1 triumph over Australia in the recent T20Is at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia.
