Cricket World Cup draws Dimuth Karunaratne’s parallels with Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal

Sri Lanka’s campaign in the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales is already in the shambles. After their first eight matches, the Islanders are placed sixth in the points table with eight points. Dimuth Karunaratne & Co have managed to beat Afghanistan, England and Windies thus far in the mega event. On July 1, in their penultimate outing in the tournament, the Lankans got over the Caribbean team by 23 runs.

Avishka Fernando scored his maiden international ton at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street. Later, Nicholas Pooran tried valiantly with a ton, but his efforts went in vain. Albeit the Lankans are still in with a slender chance of qualifying for the semis, it’s very remote. Their last league match is versus India, the ICC’s number one ranked ODI team, on July 6 at Headingley in Leeds.

A reasonable campaign for Dimuth Karunaratne

As far as their players are concerned, skipper Karunaratne has been one of their standout batsmen. The southpaw has notched 212 runs in six matches at an average of 42.40 with a couple of half-centuries. His campaign started with a handy 52 versus New Zealand in Cardiff, though his efforts came in a losing cause. He followed it up with a 30 against Afghanistan at the same venue.

Thereafter, the left-hander played a superlative knock of 97 against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. Yet another time, he couldn’t take his team over the line. Karunaratne failed in the next two games versus England and South Africa in Leeds and Chester-le-Street respectively. However, he made amends in the last match as he got 32 runs in a stand of 93 runs with Kusal Perera.

In the meantime, the official Twitter handle of Cricket World Cup made a couple of comparisons – they created a collage of Sri Lanka’s Isuru Udana with French Footballer Olivier Giround who they think look pretty similar and then Karunaratne with popular Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal, who has come up the ranks in the last one year or so.

The handle of CWC captioned the picture and wrote, “Is it just us or do you notice the resembalance” while posting the Udana-Giround resembalance.

Then replying to the same thread added- “While we are at it…How much does Sri Lanka captain #DimuthKarunaratne look like @vickykaushal09 ?”
