Ravindra Jadeja's wife Rivaba appointed head of Karni Sena women's wing in Gujarat

Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s wife Rivaba was on Friday appointed by the Karni Sena as the head of its women’s wing in Gujarat. The Karni Sena is a Kshatriya-Rajput community group that is particularly active in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Last year they had led violent protests against the Bollywood feature film Padmavaat, which starred Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

Local leaders of Karni Sena in Rajkot said that Mahipalsinh Makrana, national president of the group had appointed Rivaba as the head of the women’s wing of the organisation in the state. Addressing a press conference in Rajkot, Mrs Jadeja thanked JP Jadeja, Karni Sena in-charge for the Saurashtra region and Ritaba Jadeja, chief of Jamnagar city unit of the group for having put her name forward for the post.

Rivaba shared that she had discussed the matter with her her husband Ravindra Jadeja before accepting the group’s offer to be chief of its women’s wing in Gujarat.

“I had told him that it was for our community. I told him that if I can set an example, it would be for the good of our community only. And his response was that if I wanted and believed that I could do something for the community, I should go ahead. I have his full support,” she said.

Goal is to empower women

She promised to fight for women’s rights, saying, “My first goal would be to empower women to the level that they can fend for themselves, take care of themselves and defend themselves when men are not around and fight off any threats from perverted minds. This is my prime goal as I have personally been through such an experience.” She was apparently referring to an incident where a police constable allegedly slapped her after her car hit his bike in Jamnagar earlier this year.

Rivaba is a qualified mechanical engineer. She tied the knot with Indian cricketer Jadeja in 2016, and they have a daughter named Nidhyana.

Incidentally, the Karni Sena had held violent protests against Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie Padmavat last year, claiming the film showed the Rajasthani queen Padmavati in poor light. The group had allowed the film to be released only after its title was changed to Padmavaat and other required edits were made.
