Cricketers and Bollywood celebrities react to Team India's series win
Some of the biggest names in India congratulated the team on the win.
It was almost a repeat of the last series that the two teams played, New Zealand having settled 2-3 in 2016 were handed a 2-1 defeat this time despite the fact that they took lead first up. The Kiwi side was not at their best in the crunch situations of the game in the decider and too much was left to be done against the Indian death bowlers who have been on point with their act of late.
The Kiwi side, though heartbroken must take the positives from this series as India has always been one of the toughest visits for any side, be it Australia, South Africa or England they’ve all struggled. While Twitteratis was celebrating India’s outstanding victory, there were others who appreciated the efforts of the Kiwi side who just did everything possible to win the series.
Team India was in cruise control with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli dealing in boundaries while Tim Southee & Co. failed to hit the mark. After 40 overs, it looked like the Men in Blue were running away with the game. A good fnish for the Black Caps ensured that India only scored a handful run in the final ten overs, leaving the score a little less than expected at 337.
In response, the Kiwi side played well in the first few overs with Colin Munro giving them a flying start before losing the control of the game in the middle overs. Ross Taylor’s wicket was arguably one of the turning points of the game. However, the partnership between Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls gave the Indian team some food for thought. MS Dhoni, however, had different plans in mind and with some help from Jasprit Bumrah at the other end the duo ran out the dangerous Latham.
That coupled with his brilliant effort in the last over to defend 15 runs helped the team seal out a close victory and that bagged them the series win as well.
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who has been an ardent Indian cricket fan tweeted “INDIA WINS !!! yeeeaaaaahhhhhhhh !! beats NZ in ODI .. what a game and what a finish .. PROUD to be an Indian !! Cricket Champions”. Fellow Bollywood star Anupam Kher too was quick to express his views while celebrating the victory.
