4. Virat Kohli at Adelaide
While Sachin and Laxman’s favourite hunting ground in Australia was at the SCG, Virat Kohli has a special relationship with Adelaide down under. Kohli announced his arrival in Test arena with his maiden Test century at the Adelaide Oval during India’s forgetful tour of Australia in 2012, which also was the only silver-lining for the Indians in the Test leg. The tour of 2014 saw a different Kohli leading a new young side in the absence of their stalwarts.
Kohli led by example with the bat and smashed consecutive tons in both innings of the Test match. The more notable one of the two was the one in the second innings where India almost chased down a target of 364 runs powered by the captain’s 141.
India fell short by only 48 runs to complete a historic win. VK now averages an unbelievable 98.5 in two Test matches played at Adelaide Oval with three centuries to his name and 994 cumulative runs. The subsequent year, during the group stages of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, Virat Kohli stole the show with his 107 against arch-rivals Pakistan at the very ground at Adelaide. The chase master became the only Indian to score a century in World Cup against Pakistan.
During India’s iconic T20I whitewash series down under in 2016, where the Indians won the series by 3-0, Kohli clobbered an unbeaten 90 in the Adelaide T20 to put the foot down the Australian throat and continue his fairytale romance with the South Australian capital. One thing for sure is the next time the Aussies take ion Kohli at Adelaide, they would be wary of the fact that VK loves Adelaide and it is his favourite hunting ground.
