The eight edition of the ICC Champions Trophy will commence from the 1st of June this year. England has been selected as the hosts for the consecutive second time. But before the ball gets rolling, a terror attack shook the nation. American pop singer Ariana Grande was performing at a concert in the Manchester Arena when the suicide bombings happened.
According to the latest reports, at least 22 people were killed along with more than 50 people injured. Over twenty thousand people were attending the concert of the pop singer. The singer did not get incur any injury but said she was broken after the incident. Prime Minister of Britain Theresa May termed this act as an act of terror. She said her thoughts are with those who are affected by the terror attack.
Many celebrities expressed their concern on social media. Many cricketers shared their thoughts and wishes with the families of the victims. Twitter was filled with condolence messages for the affected families. A lot of teams are already in England at the moment. They are preparing for the Champions Trophy 2017. This incident has been a shock to International Cricket Council (ICC) as well.
They will conduct a meeting today to discuss safety of the players and security issues. On 4th June, India will play against arch-rivals Pakistan. The match will be held at Edgbaston, Birmingham and a lot of fans will be coming to watch the game. ICC is looking into forcing a tight security on 4th June so as to ensure the safety of the cricketers.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also summoned all of its senior working committee members for an emergency meeting today. They are concerned about the safety of country’s prized assets. Moreover, the venue where the Indian team will play is not very far from Manchester. Hence, they want to ensure the safety of the cricketers before sending them to England.
