Cricketers who retired from the game in 2015: The year 2015 has seen some high profile cricketers bringing curtains to their wonderful playing careers in some or all forms of international cricket. Some of them are legends of the game and will be sorely missed by the fans worldwide. These players have brought laurels to their respective countries with their unwavering dedication and hard work.

Here we list Cricketers who retired from the game in 2015:

1. Zaheer Khan- All Formats:

India’s legendary bowler had injury concerns from a long time and announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket recently in the month of October. The last Test he played was against New Zealand in Wellington early last year while his last ODI was more than three years ago, against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. He played his last T20I against the Proteas at Colombo in the 2012 T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka. He ends his international career with 311 wickets from 92 Tests, 282 wickets from 200 ODIs and 17 wickets from as many T20Is.

2. Virender Sehwag- All Formats:

His last Test was in March 2013 against Australia at Hyderabad, ODI against Pakistan in January 2013 and T20I against South Africa in the 2012 T20 World Cup.  He had a remarkable career in which he scored 17,253 international runs across all formats. Sehwag is the only Indian batsman to score a triple-century in Tests and the amazing part is that he did this twice. He also scored a double hundred in an ODI against the West Indies. He played 104 Tests scoring 8586 runs with a career-best of 319. He played 251 ODIs scoring 8273 runs with a top score of 219 and 19 T20Is scoring 394 runs with a top score of 68. Sehwag is an iconic batsman and one of game’s’ most powerful hitters who batted fearlessly and entertained fans around the world.

3. Kumar Sangakkara- All Formats:

The Sri Lankan legend bowed out on a high from ODIs scoring four hundreds in as many games in the 2015 World Cup and was the second leading run-scorer in the tournament. He played his last Test in the home series against India in August 2015. He has already retired from T20Is in 2014. He played 134 Tests scoring 12400 runs with a career-best of 319. He played 404 ODIs scoring 14234 runs with a top score of 169 and 56 T20Is scoring 1382 runs with a top score of 78. The records confirm his place amongst one of the all-time greats of the game. The elegant left-hander was a wonderful wicket-keeper too.

4. Mahela Jayawardene- All Formats:

The classy Sri Lankan had already retired from Tests and T20Is hence the 2015 World Cup was his swansong international cricket. Jayawardene got a hundred against Afghanistan when his team was in trouble, but otherwise he had a disappointing tournament. He played 149 Tests scoring 11814 runs with a career-best of 374. He played 448 ODIs scoring 12650 runs with a top score of 144 and 55 T20Is scoring 1493 runs with a top score of 100. A highly successful career saw him score runs with flair and the hundred he scored in the 2011 ODI World Cup final remains one his best knocks ever.

5. Misbah-ul-Haq- ODI:

The Pakistan skipper decided to retire from one- day cricket after the 2015 World Cup. Misbah had last played a T20I in 2012. A late bloomer in international cricket he went on to become one Pakistan’s best in all forms of the game. He never scored an ODI hundred but always delivered the goods when his team needed the most. He played 162 ODIs scoring 5122 runs with a career-best of 96*. He played 39 T20Is scoring 788 runs with a top score of 87*. He continues to lead Pakistan in Test cricket and at the age of 41 is one of the fittest cricketers in the game.
