Pat Cummins, the Australian fast bowler, has lent his helping hand to the ones in distress in the COVID-19 pandemic in India. The pacer is currently a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He last played on Monday, April 26 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), led by KL Rahul, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Amidst his duty on the cricket field, Cummins has donated $50000 to the Prime Minister’s (PM) Relief Fund, an initiative by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the purchase of oxygen supplies to Indian hospitals. After his step, the youngster was greeted with loads of appreciation and admiration from the users on the social media platforms.
Pat Cummins comes up with a heartfelt gesture
Cummins dropped a long message on Twitter, saying that he’s overwhelmed by the love and support he gets in India. He was informed that the Indian government told him about the joy and jubilation the IPL brings at a stage when the country is grappling through the COVID-19 pandemic. He also urged other fellow cricketers to step forward and contribute.
“India is a country I have come to love dearly over the years and the people here are one of the warmest and kindest I have met. To know so many are suffering so much this time saddens me greatly,” Cummins wrote.
“There has been quite a bit of discussion over here whether it is appropriate for IPL to continue while Covid-19 infection rates remain high. I am advised that the Indian Government is of the view that playing the IPL while the population is in lockdown provides a few hours of joy and respite each day at an otherwise difficult time for the country,” he stated.
“I encourage my fellow IPL players – and anyone around else in the world who has been touched by India’s passion and generosity – to contribute. I will kick it off with $50,000,” Cummins added.
In the meantime, the cricketing fraternity didn’t miss out on lauding Cummins for his step.
