Mahendra Singh Dhoni is playing his 300th One Day International today as India take on Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI of the five-match series. Team India has already won the series and are looking to whitewash the hosts like they did in Tests. Dhoni was presented with a memento by skipper Virat Kohli before the match on this special occasion. Twitter erupted as soon as the match started to wish the stalwart.

The former captain has maintained magnificent form in the ongoing ODI series and has played the match saving knocks in the last couple of ODIs. He came in when the wickets were tumbling in the second match and took the side home with calm innings of 47*. Again in the next match, India were 61/4 when Dhoni came out to the middle and remained unbeaten on 67 and made sure there were no further hiccups in the chase.

A look at Dhoni’s ODI career

The 36-year-old cricketer debuted against Bangladesh on December 23, 2004, and was run-out for a duck. Since then the machine has gone on and on and is playing 300th ODI today. In 299 One Day Internationals the man from Ranchi has scored a massive 9608 runs at an amazing average of 51.93. He has lead India to all the three limited overs triumphs when he was at the helm.

Wicket-keeping of the ‘baahubali’ of the Indian team was never questioned and has now 99 stumpings to his name and is joint highest with Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara. He has also hit a whopping 209 sixes which are the most by any Indian. He has remained not out 72 times so far in his ODI career and the stalwart is looking good to play in 2019 Cricket World Cup. The current skipper Kohli too knows the importance of the man as he is always seen taking the advice from the experienced cricketer. Many former cricketers and others wished their ‘Mahi’ for his achievement.

Here is how Twitterati wished MS Dhoni:
