3. Joe Root – 7% votes
If speculations are anything to go by this calm looking beast could well be leading England next time they line up for a Test series. Joe Root who is a contrary figure of his appearance when on the cricket field has taken up the role of England’s batting mainstay with subtlety. Batting at No.3 he has the responsibility of nurturing the innings. Not only ensure no further wickets are lost but also get the scoreboard moving and he has done that beautifully.
Root also played a couple of splendid knocks on the tour of India but couldn’t replicate what Virat Kohli did for India and despite the runs England couldn’t really challenge the hosts during the series. He ended the year as the leading run-scorer in Tests with 1477 runs at an average of 49.23. CT fans weren’t certainly impressed with his performance and he received only 7% votes.
