The former captain of India was bagged by Chennai Super Kings in the first edition for USD 1.5 million that made him the costliest player of the season. He was named the captain of the franchise and did the duties from 2008 until 2015. In 2016, he moved to Rising Pune Supergiant where he led the side in its season but was removed from the captaincy for the 10th season.
Impact
There is hardly anyone close to Dhoni when it comes to having an impact on the team’s result. In the first season, CSK were the runners-up, semi-finalist in 2009, winners in 2010 and 2011, runners-up in 2012 and 2013, finished third in 2014 and runners-up in 2015. Under his leadership, the CSK side made it to the final fours in each season and was the only team to do so.
However, while leading RPS, he didn’t have the same success as the team finished second from the bottom on the points table in 2016. The captaincy was handed over to Steven Smith in the 10th edition but Dhoni was always involved in decision-making and the side made it to the final where they lost to Mumbai Indians.
