CSA names Russell Domingo as the coach of the South Africa A side

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that former South Africa national team head coach Russell Domingo will coach the South Africa ‘A’ side. CSA had earlier announced the appointment of Ottis Gibson as the head coach of the Proteas side across all the three formats. Gibson is currently working as the bowling coach of the England side and has previously worked with the West Indies team as the head coach.

Horrific results forces Domingo’s exit

South Africa took a beating against England in the Test series recently. The Proteas lost the series 3-1, and apart from that, they failed to fire in the ODIs and T20Is as well. Their horrific run continued in the Champions Trophy earlier this year.

“My time is done with the Proteas. It’s time to move on. I’ve had a wonderful six years with the national side. It is a part of my life that’s over now. I’m really looking forward to the next phase of my life,” Domingo told Independent Media at the T20 Global League draft.

Domingo- AB de Villiers join hands

Domingo has been named as the Pretoria Mavericks’ head coach for the inaugural T20 Global League, where he will be working closely with the former South African ODI skipper AB de Villiers.  “It’s good to work with AB again. I never thought I would work in Pretoria, SuperSport Park as a coach,” he said. “It’s very exciting. We have a good working relationship. We both know what we expect from each other. That will make it bit easier when we get going. We never know what’s around the corner, so definitely exciting times.”

He didn’t take a long shot at the inaugural T20 league and his team’s chances of clinching the silverware, but he said that all the sides have the potential to do well and they will take the tournament as it comes

“It’s T20 cricket. There are eight quality sides, 14 matches, there’s a lot that can happen. We haven’t even thought about that (winning silverware), but we’ll take it as it comes,” Domingo stated.
