The Cricket South Africa (CSA) has unveiled the logo of their upcoming T20 league. Designed and planned on the lines of the popular T20 leagues like the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League, CSA designed their T20 League. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, the gala event of the CSA saw the unveiling of the logo and the name of the league. The T20 league will be known by the name ‘T20 Global League’.

The T20 league will feature 8 teams, pretty much like the Indian Premier League. All the 8 franchises will be privately owned teams. The tournament will get underway in December this year with the finals of the league scheduled to be played by December 16.

The CSA chief executive, Mr. Haroon Lorgat, confirmed the same at the gala event. He also revealed that each of the 8 franchises will be allowed to have a 17-man squad. As many as 4 overseas players will be allowed to feature in the squad of 17 members.

“There will be eight franchise teams participating in the #T20 Global Destination League and each will be allowed a maximum of four foreign defined players in their 17-man squad,” quoted Haroon Lorgat.

Teams and owners

It is expected that the names of the teams and the franchise owners will be disclosed at the Lord’s on June 19 this year. Earlier, there were news of Delhi Daredevils team owners, the GMR group, showing interest in buying a team in the league. Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Brendon McCullum, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, Kieron Pollard and Jason Roy will be the international marquee players of the league. On the other hand,  Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, David Miller, Kagiso Rabada and Imran Tahir will be domestic marquee players.

The CSA chief further expressed his desire to make the league a popular one in the world of cricket. He noted that the league is set to be a new beginning in South African cricket circuit.

“It is our duty as Cricket South Africa to safeguard the future of the game. By backing a high-value tournament like the new T20 Global League, and investing in synergistic partnerships with key stakeholders, the T20 Global League is perfectly positioned to become an internationally successful sporting event,” he quoted.
