CSK keeper Narayan Jagadeeshan awestruck by the fitness level of MS Dhoni
"He is always there to guide you."
When a wicketkeeper-batsman in the name of MS Dhoni is playing for the team, his colleagues feel the pressure more, particularly the other wicket-keepers. Be it in the national or state or club side, there is not much change in the scenario. Tamil Nadu and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper-batsman N Jagadeeshan is also in awe of the legendary cricketer’s fitness and composure. The 23-year-old keeper will soon share the dressing room with the 37-year-old in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting March 23 and there will certainly be things for him to learn.
Dhoni recently played in an ODI series against Australia though he has been rested for the final two matches. He was replaced by young Rishabh Pant in the fourth ODI but the latter had a horrible day in the field, missing more than one chance to dismiss the opponent batsmen and seeing India losing the game even after scoring 358 runs. Pant was slammed by the fans who said that there is only one Dhoni and he is irreplaceable.
“He is supremely fit. You really can’t say he is 37 because of the way he moves, he is so swift around the field. And he is just so calm. He rarely speaks but those few words lift the team,” Jagadeeshan was quoted as saying on the website of the CSK.
Dhoni returned as the captain of the CSK last year after it served two years of suspension and guided it to title victory for the third time, a record which is only matched by Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma. In batting, too, Dhoni was in great touch last year.
Jagadeeshan has already gained Dhoni’s valuable inputs
Jagadeeshan, who last played the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament for Tamil Nadu last, is yet to make his debut in the IPL but he has already gathered some necessary inputs from Dhoni.
“You don’t see Dhoni keep at the nets, he is something who keeps directly in the games. But he is always there to guide you. I will be doing y drills and, at times when Mahi bhai sees me, he takes the time out to come and give me inputs,” the youngster, who made his first-class debut in 2016 and has three hundreds from 17 games so far, said. In 19 T20s, Jagadeeshan has scored 261 runs at a strike rate of 119-plus.
