CSK vs GT: David Miller's match-winning knock takes him 'down to the memory lane'
Miller remembered his 38-ball century against RCB in IPL 2013.
A David Miller special denied Chennai Super Kings a much-needed win on Sunday (April 17) as Gujarat Titans steered home in a thrilling clash. The defending champions looked firmly in command when GT were reduced to 48/4 in the chase of 170 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. However, Miller brought his A-game out and went absolutely berserk against the CSK bowlers.
With the help of eight boundaries and six maximums, the southpaw slammed an unbeaten 94 off 51 balls as the Titans crossed the line on the penultimate ball of the game. As this was GT’s fifth win in their first six games in IPL 2022, the side has consolidated its position at the top of the team standings.
When David Miller took RCB bowlers by storm
Meanwhile, this staggering knock took Miller down the memory lane as the southpaw remembered his 38-ball century in IPL 2013. Back then, the southpaw used to serve Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and the opposition was Royal Challengers Bangalore. Miller came out to bat in a similar situation as Punjab suffered a top-order collapse while chasing 191.
However, the South African star unleashed a six-hitting exhibition and scored an unbeaten 101 off 38 balls, taking his side to a six-wicket triumph. As Miller played a similar knock against CSK, he recalled his mayhem nine years back.
“I have been really working hard on my fitness. It does take me back to memory lane [referring to the innings he played for KXIP], it was sort of play my game, see ball hit ball, with the rate already quite high, I wanted to express myself. It came off tonight and pretty chuffed with the innings,” said Miller after the game.
The Proteas star further said GT have done well in crunch situations and hence, find themselves atop the team standings. “The first couple of games we got over the line with close wins, we could’ve probably lost four out of six rather than win five of six. The dice rolled on our side and hopefully it continues going forward,” he stated.
