There has been a conundrum Chennai Super Kings is going through regarding their senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Firstly, the team management gave him the responsibility of captaincy before IPL 2022 as MS Dhoni decided to quit duty. Later, Jadeja couldn’t deliver for Chennai as the team lost six matches out of the first eight under his leadership.
As a result, the captaincy duty was handed back by the Chennai management to MS Dhoni. Speaking on the same, former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has stressed on the importance of Jadeja in the CSK setup. Chopra said that franchise might go through a dilemma while making their call regarding Jadeja’s place in the team next year.
To note, Saurashtra-based all-rounder has failed miserably with the bat, scoring only 116 runs in 10 matches with an average of 19.33. Apart from that, he could scalped only five wickets in 10 innings this season.
It seems Ravindra Jadeja will not captain CSK next year: Aakash Chopra
“There are serious question marks over Ravindra Jadeja. He was not available for the last few games and had even left the captaincy before that. He was retained for ₹16 crores but it seems he will not be captain next year,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“MS Dhoni had clearly stated that leadership was affecting him. The news from the camp is everything is okay. But whether it is, we shall find out next season. If CSK releases him, they will be able to free ₹16 crores, but they won’t find another player like him,” the former Indian opener added.
There was also a chatter in the cricket corridors that Jadeja had to leave the camp due to the rifts with CSK management. But management, later confirmed that the southpaw has sustained a rib injury so he had to go for his recovery.
