CT 2017: If we don't start well, the tournament is over, says Ross Taylor

Veteran New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor has been serving the national side for over a decade now. He has seen the ups and downs of the black caps during his time with the national setup. Taylor has been an integral part of the team that has seen a massive resurgence in the recent past. Despite all the hard strides, a big tournament win has eluded Taylor in his career.

Now, he is itching to get his hands on the upcoming edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. As per the quotes in News18.com, Ross Taylor recently tried to recall some of the best moments of his cricketing career. He remarked the 2015 World Cup to be a top highlight. The Kiwis had made it to the finals of the tournament in the year.

“Beating Australia 3-0 in the Chappell-Hadlee in 2007, the last World Cup (when New Zealand made the final for the first time) was pretty special and making the final of the (2009) Champions Trophy was a highlight,” quoted Ross Taylor.

On CT 2017 chances

Talking about their chances in the upcoming Champions Trophy, Taylor noted that the players have been gelling well together. The depth that they have in their side is something that adds to their strength. He further added they have two big games upfront and hence it will ve vital to start off on a big note. If they fail in those two games, the tournament could well be over for them.

“The players have played together for so long now we know each other so well. Our depth is probably our strength. But we need to start well. We have two hard matches straight up against Australia and England and if we don’t start well the tournament’s over. And after that, we’ll see,” remarked Taylor.

Taylor is known for his signature celebration of taking his tongue out after reaching a ton. Speaking about that, Ross Taylor noted that his young daughter Mackenzie had asked him to do so. And now, considering his low note form, Mackenzie has told him, “Dad, I think now you should poke your tongue out if you get to 50.”
