CT 2017: Indian fans show no mercy on Mohammad Amir, mock him for tainted past
When he was fielding in the deep during the match, the Indian crowds booed him and tried to troll him on his tainted past.
Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir seemed to have found no mercy from the Indian spectators during the recent marquee clash between India and Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. The arch rivals had locked horns at Birmingham in the highly-anticipated clash. Amir bowled the first over of the match after Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and opted to field first.
Mohammad Amir bowled a fiery first over to finish with a maiden against Rohit Sharma. However, the Indian team dictated the terms for the remainder of the match. It came as no surprise to see the Indian team dominating the terms against the hapless men in green. Needless to say, nothing seemed to be going right for the Pakistani team on the day.
For Amir, things were a tad worse. When he was fielding in the deep during the match, the Indian crowds booed him and tried to troll him on his tainted past. They mocked him as ‘Qaidi number 5’ which translates to ‘prisoner number 5’. The number 5 is the jersey number that Mohammad Amir sports for Pakistan. And the term prisoner was in relation with his poor past.
Spot-fixing saga
Amir was one of the three players convicted in the infamous spot-fixing scandal in the year 2010. The entire scene had unfolded during Pakistan’s tour to England in the year 2010. The then skipper, Salman Butt, along with pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were charged for deliberately bowling no balls in the match.
All the three players were banned subsequently. Amir, who was only 17-years of age back then, was handed a 5-year suspension. He served his suspension period and made a comeback to the national side. The other two are still trying hard to stage a comeback. Amir will certainly see the demons of his past haunt him all through his life. But such actions from the Indian crowds was certainly a little overboard and should have been avoided.
