Australia now has failed to qualify to knockouts of last 4 out of the 5 ICC events as they couldn’t defeat the hosts England in their final league game in which they needed to win to make it to semis ahead of Bangladesh. Australia made a progressive start while batting first but failed to capitalise and settled down with 277/9 in their fifty overs. They struck early on with the ball to reduce England to 35/3 in 6 overs before rain made an appearance.
After the rain break the home side took over the Aussies as Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes scored way ahead of the required rate. Morgan was run out unfortunately on 87 but Stokes completed his century just before the rain came again and never went back. England were 240/4 after 40.2 overs at that stage, 40 runs ahead of the DLS par score.
