CT 2017, Match 10: Par scores and targets for England

To qualify for semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2017, Australia needed to win their last league game against England but they are currently fighting against the weather as well which is threatening to wash out the game, a result, which is enough for Bangladesh to sneak past Australia for making to semis.

After being put into bat first, Australia got off to a quick start with Aaron Finch striking at a good rate. The Australians were going over 6 an over at the halfway stage and were looking set for a big total. However, England bagged wickets with the Aussie batsmen playing some poor strokes and handing a catching practice to the home side. Finch and Captain Steven Smith got out soon after their fifties but Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell at the crease after 40 overs was an encouraging sign for the Australians with 220/4 on the board.

However, a brilliant catch at the boundary by Jason Roy sent back Maxwell which triggered an Australian batting collapse. They went from 239/4 to 254/9 as Mark Wood and Adil Rashid picked 4 wickets each. Head added valuable 23 runs at the end to take the score to 277/9 as he top-scored for his side with an unbeaten 71 off just 64 balls hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes.

England lost their openers by the 2nd over itself as Roy and Alex Hales collectively scored 4 runs. Captain Eoin Morgan and Joe Root tried to add a few quick runs but Root fell just before the rain interruption leaving his side at 35/3 in 6 overs. Though England are 51 runs behind the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern par score, Australia need the England innings to last at least 20 overs for a result.
