CT 2017: Match 4: Pakistan's possible DLS targets and par scores

The Birmingham rain during the Champions Trophy game between Indian and Pakistan continued to frustrate the fans from either side of the border as it reduced the excitement of the 50 overs game and is set to eat up a few more overs from the play.

India posted a huge total in front of Pakistan with some brilliant hitting in the final few overs. They got off to a great start with the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan putting on 136 for the first wicket. Indian innings was slowed down in the middle phase after Dhawan’s wicket with Rohit Sharma struggling to score at a decent pace.

However, once he looked like going for big hits, he was run out for 91 in an unfortunate manner as his bat bounced and remained in the air even though he managed to put his bat past the crease. The senior batsman Yuvraj Singh managed to provide the much-needed pace as he middled the ball really well and raced to a 29-ball fifty, the fifty fastest in the Champions Trophy history.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, struggled to score as he was on 44 off 56 balls at one stage but recovered with some brilliant hitting. He needed just 12 balls for his next 37 runs as India added 62 runs in their last 4 overs to finish with 319/3 in the restricted 48 overs. Hardik Pandya gave finishing touches by hitting 3 sixes in 3 balls in the final over.

Pakistan came out to bat with a revised target of 324 runs in 48 overs and made a steady start scoring 23 runs without losing a wicket in 4.5 overs before rain made its appearances yet again in the game. Pakistan currently are 2 runs behind the Duckworth-Lewis Stern method’s par score but for an outcome in the game, at least 20 overs of innings should be played.

They didn’t lose a wicket before the rain break and that will be helping them when their target is adjusted after the reduction of overs again. Assuming 18 overs are lost in the game, the new target will be 229 for Pakistan. Had they lost a wicket before the interruption, they would have been chasing 239 in 30 overs.
