Current selection panel cannot challenge Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli: Syed Kirmani
Shastri is the main selector according to Kirmani.
The selection panel led by MSK Prasad has come under the scanner ever since the likes of Murali Vijay and Karun Nair has claimed the lack of communication from the team management. While the former was dropped from the team for his poor performance in the first couple of Tests against England, Nair was unlucky to be left out from the squad without even playing a game. In the wake of the same controversy, Syed Kirmani has opined that the current selection committee is not brave enough to challenge Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli.
Both the cricketers came out in public and made some controversial comments after being dropped from the side. Even the former cricketers sympathised especially for Nair who deserved to play the Windies Tests. But the selectors dropped him for no reason and with Hanuma Vihari in the plans, the middle-order slot isn’t vacant anymore.
Shastri is the main selector
Meanwhile, the former Indian cricketer Syed Kirmani has alleged that the current selection committee is low on experience to challenge the duo of Indian captain and coach. He also went on to say that Ravi Shastri is the main selector and no one can challenge them from the current set-up.
“If you ask me Ravi Shastri is the main selector, being the coach. He along with the captain and senior members will discuss and put it (what they want) across to the selection committee. The current selection committee, with due respect, is inexperienced to these guys (Shastri and Kohli). And they better listen to what the team management wants because they cannot debate with Shastri and Kohli, who have much more experience,” he said according to the Economic Times.
Kirmani also recalled the way he was sidelined despite playing well at that stage of his career and opined that luck plays its role in such cases. “Luck also plays a role in selection. Take my example. I was sidelined at the peak of my career,” the 68-year-old added.
