Curtly Ambrose is interested in England's coaching role
Curley Ambrose is interested in the England's coaching job.
West Indies legend Curtly Ambrose recently said that he would certainly like to take the job of the England bowling coach. The position will be up for grabs once Ottis Gibson leaves. Gibson will soon be joining the South African team. Ambrose was sacked by the West Indies board 18 months back. Incidentally, he was sacked just after the Darren Sammy led West Indies side lifted the World T20 last year.
Gibson is likely to quit after the 3-Test match series against West Indies, and it will be confirmed once the hotseat gets vacant. Ambrose strongly believes that he could be their man. The champion fast bowler has scalped 405 wickets from 98 Test matches. He recently said that “If an opportunity came from England I would certainly take it because I think I have something to offer.”
It was strange: Ambrose
He also added that he wants to get back to the international circuit. It came as a surprise when coach Phil Simmons decided to replace the legend with Roddy Estwick.
‘It was strange really because Phil Simmons never indicated that I wasn’t doing a good job,’ said Ambrose. ‘He rang me and said he wanted someone more technical but he’d never told me that I wasn’t technical enough. What that means I don’t know.’. The Antigua-born has 225 ODI wickets from 176 games at an average of 24.12. The tall former fast bowler has 941 victims in First class cricket. Ambrose is always known as one of the greatest Pacers to have played the game. The West Indian last played against England in a Test match in 2000. He is popularly known for his devastating spell of 7/1 against Australia at WACA.
Clearly, having Ambrose in the side will be a good call for the fast bowlers, as England rely heavily on the likes of Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and more.
