Dale Steyn likely to turn up for South Africa A in England
"I want to play cricket for South Africa. I am nearly ready," quoted Steyn.
South African speedster Dale Steyn is expected to be back to cricket action this June. He has been recovering well from the injury. He is keen on touring England this year with the South Africa A team to have match practice under his belt. His decision to play in the tour match is quite surprising for many. This is largely due to the fact that English pacer, Stuart Broad, who is also down with an injury, has been asked not to play in tour matches.
Broad had recently requested the board to allow him to play a match for Nottingham against Durham. However, English team head coach Trevor Bayliss denied his request. Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne had ridiculed this call by the English team. The English team has a long cricketing season in the upcoming 12 months. Hence the decision was made keeping in mind the longevity of the pacer.
“I can’t believe Broad has been told not to play – that’s a joke. It’s cotton wool stuff and the player is going to get the hump – and you want a happy player,” Warne had quoted.
Now, the South African pacer Dale Steyn has decided to play the tour match. This might probably make Warne happy. Talking about his plans, Steyn noted that he has been training well and is feeling very confident about his return in June.
“My rehab is going well. I have done beep training for a month or so. I am running fit. Planning to go on South Africa A-trip in June,” said Steyn.
Steyn has been one of the premier pacers in the world cricket. He was asked about his competition in the England series with James Anderson. Anderson, too, has been a prolific bowler in the English conditions. Dale Steyn remarked that he is not very keen on comparisons. “I am not interested in that. I just want to play again,” noted the pacer.
Lastly, he conceded that he wishes to play for South Africa and that is the only thing on his mind. Also, he is fancying his chances with the balls used in the English conditions. “I want to play cricket for South Africa. I am nearly ready. The Duke ball swings. It gives me a chance,” conceded Steyn.
