The global pandemic that is the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has taken the world by storm. More than half a million people have been infected by the virus that primarily originated from the Wuhan City of China last year. The virus has proceeded to put the entire world into lockdown and with almost everything out on a back burner, it has proceeded to offset everybody’s plans, especially that of sportsmen.

South African fast bowling legend Dale Steyn dwelled on the same in a recent interview conducted by Kevin Pietersen on the latter’s Instagram page. He revealed how he was preparing himself for the next PSL game for Islamabad United before an emergency meeting was called-up where it was decided that with the situation steadily escalating, he had to go back to South Africa.

“I was in South Africa even before the match started, it was very quick,” Dale Steyn said in an interview with Pieterson via Instagram.

‘It’s just gone’- Dale Steyn on Coronavirus’ affect on his future commitments

“Was playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) this year, so were AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, and Aaron Finch. Had to go to IPL directly from PSL, after that had to go to Sri Lanka and then play against West Indies but everything is like just gone.”

Just like India, 57 million South Africans are currently under lockdown and Steyn believes it is a test for all. “It is a test for us, the time when people have to take care of each other but they are at the beaches, I mean what are they doing, there must be a reason why that is happening. I can do my own laundry, I will clean my room as well during the period,” he added.

Kevin Pietersen asked Dale Steyn to pick one South African who would be hating this lockdown, the fast bowler was quick to name former all-rounder Jacques Kallis, who recently became a father. “He became a father recently, he will be changing the nappies and would not even be able to come out of his house,” Steyn told Pietersen.
