Dale Steyn is regarded as one of the deadliest fast bowlers South Africa have ever produced, if not the world. His fervor to serve the sport has left everyone awestruck over the years. The pacer made his debut way back in 2004 versus England and hasn’t looked back ever since. His career has escalated with the passage of time and he kept flourishing in all formats of international cricket.
The 34-year old veteran has played 86 Tests, 116 ODIs and 42 T20Is in which he has notched 419, 180 and 58 wickets respectively. His ability to move the leather at sheer pace has been a tormenting factor for opponents. Nevertheless, his career hasn’t been a smooth ride as far as fitness is concerned. He suffered from a shoulder injury for quite a while, which kept him out of the game for over a year.
Steyn’s injury-marred career
He made a comeback in the Proteas’ Test series versus India earlier this year but was again ruled out, this time owing to a calf injury. The national team will play a couple of Tests in Sri Lanka and Steyn has been named in the squad. Prior to that, he played a first class and a List A match for Hampshire. He picked up three wickets in the matches and looked in good shape.
The Phalaborwa-born pacer will be itching to resurrect his injury-prone career with some strong performances in the upcoming tour. The World Cup is also 11 months away and the speedster will also be looking to stake his claim back in the ODI setup. Meanwhile, the cricketer met Wasim Akram, the former Pakistani pacer, and Jeff Thompson, the legendary Aussie pacemen.
Wasim Akram put forth the contributions of all three bowlers, to which Steyn replied even in a more heartwarming manner. He wrote “You two are legends! Never thought a kid from Phalaborwa would hang out with my heroes! #dreamsdocometrue”
