Dale Steyn thanks fans for their wishes after becoming the leading wicket-taker for South Africa
Steyn achieved the massive milestone with the wicket of Fakhar Zaman.
Dale Steyn became the second South African bowler to take 400 wickets in Test cricket in 2015. He seemed set to break Shaun Pollock’s record of 421 wickets in no times but his progress was hampered by injuries. He missed a lot of cricket since then, which extended the wait for him to be the leading wicket-taker for the national team in Tests.
The legendary fast bowler equalled Pollock’s record earlier this year. On day 1 of the first Test match against Pakistan, he finally broke the much-awaited record. Fakhar Zaman tried to drive a ball early in his innings but he only managed to edge it.
The ball went to slips where Dean Elgar made no mistake and Steyn got the wicket he was waiting for. The whole cricketing world congratulated the fast bowler for his achievement. The South African seemed to be happy with the response he got and thanked everyone on Twitter.
Dale Steyn posted a message for his well-wishers on Twitter
Steyn posted a thank you message for his family, friends and all the cricket lovers around the world who wished him well. He further wrote that he has received all the messages and will try to respond in some time.
“Thank you, family, Thank you, friends, Thank you cricket lovers Thank you cricket Messages all received, I’ll try get back to you all in good time. Love you all” the South African tweeted.
On Day 1 of the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan, Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and opted to bat first on a green pitch. The Pakistan captain would have been hoping that his batsmen can justify the decision. However, they failed in that regard as Pakistan was reduced to 121/8 at one stage and looked in all sorts of trouble.
Babar Azam then took up the responsibility as he scored 71 runs to take Pakistan to a respectable total. He attacked South Africa’s spearhead Dale Steyn as he scored four boundaries in one over twice against him. At the end of days’ play, South Africa was trailing by 54 runs with five wickets in hand.
