Cricket South Africa has named pace bowler Dane Paterson as the replacement for Morne Morkel for the upcoming second Test against Bangladesh. The Proteas team is currently hosting the Bangladeshi side for a two-match Test series. The hosts pulled off a thumping win in the first Test that recently concluded at Potchefstroom.

While the big win bolstered the confidence of the South African side, they were also left dented with an injury concern by the end of the day. Their premier pacer in the squad, Morne Morkel, got injured on the penultimate day of the Test match. Morkel had stunned the Bangladeshi batting lineup before heading back to the dressing room on the day.

The target of 423 was not only going to be daunting but also historic at the same time for the young Bangladeshi team. However, it was the opening spell from Morne Morkel that left most of the hopes of the visiting team crashing by the end of the fourth day’s play. Morkel sent back Tamim Iqbal by shattering his wood work on the fourth ball of the very first over in the final innings.

A delivery later, he caught Mominul Haque plumb in front of the stumps to send him packing too. Both batsmen had to walk back to the pavilion with a duck score owing to the fiery bowling of Morne Morkel. However, he was soon seen struggling with his movements and did not take the field again in the match.

Now, CSA has named Dane Paterson as the replacement for Morkel in the second Test. Paterson, who has scalped 285 wickets in 85 First Class matches, has played 4 T20Is for South Africa. He will be in line to make his debut in the Test.

South Africa squad for the 2nd Test:

Faf du Plessis (C), Hashim Amla, Temba Bavuma, Theunis de Bruyn, Quinton de Kock, Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Duanne Olivier, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson.
