English cricketer Danielle Wyatt became only the second cricketer to register two T20I centuries in women’s cricket. She hammered a whirlwind 124 off just 64 deliveries in a recent fixture against India Women in Mumbai. Her knock helped England Women register the highest successful run chase in T20Is for her team.
Chasing 198 for the win, Danielle Wyatt opened the innings for the English side in the run chase. Her knock put England in a commanding position for the eventual 7 wicket win. Commenting on her knock, Danielle Wyatt remarked that she wishes to dedicate the knock to her father. Her father, Steve Wyatt, had flown from England to watch her play in the match.
“This hundred was quite special because my dad has flown all the way to see my knock. So this one’s for him. He loves India. I’ve worked really hard with my coaches. Fitness was a big factor, kept pushing myself. I would like to try and keep going from here,” Danielle Wyatt quoted after the match.
No broadcast in England
Steve Wyatt had missed out on the opportunity to see Danielle hit her first T20I hundred in November 2017. He was happy to catch the action this time around. He remarked that her efforts in the Ashes was a big one. He, however, rued the fact that the telecast of this particular game against India was not broadcast in England. He feels it was unfortunate for the sport to have missed this broadcast.
“First England female to do that, and during the Ashes…Well, thankfully, we had the game on live. I did watch it live, but didn’t record it,” noted Steve Wyatt.
“I’m the sole representative of the Wyatt family here. But we were discussing this at dinner last night. Not sure what the issue is but what a big opportunity missed in the last game, and this one too, with so many people back home wanting to watch these matches,” he added further.
Danielle puts in the hard work
Commenting further on her knock, Danielle Wyatt remarked that she has been working a lot with the batting coach. Also, she is giving a lot of attention to the minute details of her game. She has a lot of positives to take from the herculean knock.
“I’ve been working really hard with Ali Maiden, our batting coach. Basically, just hit straighter and a few things up here. Seems to have been working. So, yeah, should have been positive, I guess,” Danielle noted.
Heather Knight showers praises
Meanwhile, England Women captain Heather Knight has also showered praises on the knock played by Wyatt. She remarked that scoring so freely in a high pressure run chase deserves a lot of appreciation. She was certainly thrilled to see Danni in action.
“With context of the game, we saw what a spectacle it was. We saw great batting by both teams. To go out and chase like that is another world record for the highest chase again,” Heather Knight quoted.
