Cricket fans worldwide have their eyes on the calendar and clock as high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash is just around the corner. The arch-rivals will kick-start their respective T20 World Cup 2021 campaign with this encounter which takes place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 24. With India and Pakistan sharing a history of rivalry over the 22 yards, many experts of both nations have been giving their predictions about the marquee game.
Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is the latest to join the bandwagon. One of the finest leg-spinner to have played for Pakistan, Kaneria reckoned the team which will hold their nerves on the given day will taste success. Having said that, the 40-year-old reckoned India are the favourites to win this contest as all their bases are covered. He also opined Pakistan have many loopholes in the side.
My prediction is 70-30 in favour of India: Danish Kaneria
“Team which will hold their nerves on the given day and handle the pressure will emerge victorious. Having said that, Indian team comfortably won warm-up matches against two big teams (England and Australia). Pakistan lost their warm-up fixture against South Africa, failing to defend (186),” said Kaneria while speaking to CricTracker.
“Also India’s batters are doing well and so are their bowlers. On the other hand, only two Pakistan batters have been doing well (Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan). In the bowling attack, there’s a lot of burden on Shaheen Shah Afridi. Shadab Khan hasn’t been doing well lately. So, my prediction is 70-30 in favour of India.”
On being asked about who’ll lift the World Cup, Kaneria cheekily said: “It will come to Asia only.” With Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, the other Asian sides in the Super 12 stage, not having a formidable squad on the paper, the former cricketer apparently meant either India or Pakistan will get the glory.
Meanwhile, the history favours India and Babar Azam’s men will have the onus to break a long losing streak. The two sides have met five times in T20 World Cups and the Men in Blue emerged victorious every single time. However, T20 is a format of uncertainty and it would be interesting to see how the much-awaited contest pans out.
