The Aussie head coach Darren Lehmann was in high praise of quick bowler Patt Cummins, after his performance in the first Test match against England at the Gabba. The former Australian cricketer had some very praiseworthy words for the speedster for his all-round performance. He also hoped Cummins to be fit for the second Test match in Adelaide, amidst some rumours that he is not fully fit for the day-night fixture.
The hosts won the first Test by 10 wickets, after a great hundred by the skipper Steve Smith in the first innings, which also helped the Aussies to take a crucial 26-run lead in the Test match. The credit of the victory also goes to the bowlers, especially Patt Cummins who took 4 wickets in the match and also contributed an important 42 runs in the first innings with the bat.
The victory has given the Aussies an upper hand over the visitors in the Ashes 2017-18 and they will be very confident going into the second Test match at Adelaide.
They are many challenges for him as well for the management
Lehmann praised the fast bowler and called him a ‘superstar’ for his energy while running on the field. He also talked about the different challenges which both Cummins and the management face focusing on him to be match fit and play more games for his country. The coach also stated that he is keeping his fingers crossed and hopes that he would be alright for the upcoming games.
“He is a superstar when he’s on the park. For us, the challenge has been trying to get him playing as much cricket as he can and things are probably just starting to fall into place for him so fingers crossed he recovers all right,” said Lehmann in a conversation with RSN.
The former Aussie cricketer also revealed that the fast bowler looks fit at this point and he will look into the matter for a couple of days before the second Test match begins on Saturday. He talked about Cummins’ regular injuries and how he is a much stronger person now.
“He looks like he’s OK for this game so we’ll certainly roll them out today at training and see how they go. He’s been one that has had a lot of injuries but he’s starting to believe in his body and he’s got stronger. He’s one of those guys that hits the bat really hard, a lot harder than you think, he’s quick and you don’t get a great sight of the ball,” the head coach concluded.
