After a humiliating defeat in the first Test match of the two-match Test series, the Aussies have finally managed to bring back parity by winning the second Test. However, that doesn’t mean that the baggy greens’ head coach Darren Lehmann can sit back and relax. He has a very difficult assignment coming up, that is a limited overs series against the Men in Blue in India.
Over the recent few years, the kangaroos have struggled every time they toured an Asian country and the defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the first Test was a testament to it. What Lehmann is most concerned about is his side’s batting collapse. Even after a strong foundation, Steve Smith & Co. always manage to lose wickets in a cluster and thereby making things exciting for the neutral.
In the first Test in Dhaka, Smith’s men lost 6 wickets in a span of 41 runs. In the second Test in Chittagong, they managed to lose 7 wickets within mere 79 runs. Thankfully for them, the Bangladeshis could not capitalize on their collapse, but these happenings have become a headache for Darren. “It’s happening too often for a young group. The first part of the batting collapses was with an older group if you like, and then we changed it around and we’re still having them. It’s seriously not their preparation or how they go about it. It’s more the mental side of the game. We’re working through that with a young group and trying to come up with some solutions,” said the 47-year old while speaking to ESPNCricinfo.
Maxwell will have to perform
Amongst the numerous questions circulating in Australian media, lies a very important question- Is Glenn Maxwell’s position in the team nailed? When the head coach was asked about it, he replied “With No. 6 in Australia it is totally different to Asia. We’ll certainly be looking at that position. Glenn is there at the moment, like everyone else, he’ll have to perform.”
