Darren Sammy names the players he loves to watch
When asked about his favourite cricket ground, he answered, “Darren Sammy Cricket Ground”.
Even though former West Indies skipper Darren Sammy is no more a regular feature in International cricket, it does not take away the fact that he has some interesting things to say about cricket and life in general. In an interview, he talked about his illustrious cricket career and how he pins it all on his faith. He had mentioned in the speech after the victory in the World T20 final that it was perhaps the last time the team was playing together, and unfortunately, it turned out to be true.
The team now features young blood, and is presently in what we call a “transition phase”. However, the results for the side across all formats since the departure of their core players from the International arena has proved costly for the Windies, as depicted in their recent performances and rankings across all formats.
On the best players
In his 12 years of International cricket career, Sammy has not only captained the West Indies side but also in the IPL, in the South African Ram Slam, in the PSL, in Hong Kong and in the Caribbean Premier League. He credits his achievements to God and his faith in Him.
When asked about who is the best player the all-rounder he ever played against, he told Cross the Line, “Man, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, I played a couple of limited matches against Brian Lara and I got him out, I got him out back in 2002. Kallis, Ponting, Tendulkar and now even Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers, we have some great players around.”
