Darren Sammy receives civil award Sitara-e-Pakistan for his contributions to Peshawar Zalmi

Former West Indian captain Darren Sammy has received the civil award ‘Sitara-e-Pakistan’ for his excellent contributions to the revival of Pakistan cricket. The 38-year-old who represented West Indies in 38 Tests, 126 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, has been one of the best captains that the world has seen in the T20 format and he captained a lot of franchises around the world. Among those, Peshawar Zalmi has stayed close to his heart and he is currently serving as the head coach of the franchise as well.
The two-time T20 World Cup-winning captain was part of the franchise for a long time, and he captained them to a title win in 2017 with a superlative individual performance as well. The side has also been performing really well since Sammy has come into the coaching setup and they finished third in the league stages of PSL 2022. Apart from that, there has been a significant rise in the talent unearthing in the country from the PSL and recently, Sammy was acknowledged for his services with a prestigious award.
Sammy tweeted about the memorable moment of receiving the award and posted a video of his second home in Pakistan. He added about the country being one of his favourite places and highlighted how well he had been taken care of.

“Pakistan is like home to me and this is an honour for me. I am very proud.”
“Pakistan is definitely one of these places. A place that always makes me feel at home. It’s such an honour to have received this prestigious award (Sitara-e-Pakistan) from the government and people of Pakistan. Thank you. #PakistanZindabad,” he added.
PSL franchise Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi congratulated Sammy on his award and noted about his contributions to the country in terms of reviving Cricket.

“Your contribution for Pakistan cricket revival will be [written] in golden words [and] in our hearts forever,” Afridi tweeted
