Pakistan women’s head coach David Hemp has confirmed his decision to not extend his contract. The former Bermuda cricketer took up the role in October 2020 and his contract is set to come to an end this October. The PCB will now have to look up a new head coach for the women’s team ahead of the Ireland women’s limited-overs tour of Pakistan in November.

Under Hemp, Pakistan did produce some inspirational victories, including the win over West Indies in the World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. They almost sniffed a chance against South Africa in the same tournament, but lost by six runs. Hemp, meanwhile, talked about his responsibilities as a father, which led to his decision.

He mentioned the delightful time he had in the subcontinent country, however, revealed the difficulties of not spending enough time with the family. He noted about getting a family consultation while making the decision and praised the PCB for understanding his situation. The 51-year-old confessed he had given his best as a coach and added that the results do not truly reflect the hard work or efforts that had been put in.

“I have enjoyed living in Pakistan and working with the women cricketers, but it has also been difficult on me and my young family as I have been unable to spend enough time with them like any other father. After consulting my family, I have conveyed this difficult decision to the Pakistan Cricket Board, which has very graciously understood my situation and accepted my decision. It has been incredibly enjoyable and satisfying working with the girls,” Hemp was quoted as saying by the ICC.

“Although results in the international arena may not truly reflect the hard work and effort that went into the planning and preparations, I am satisfied that I gave my very best and the girls equally responded,” he added.
