The Kings XI Punjab are all set to play under a new skipper in the remainder of the season. Kings XI Punjab were led by the South African batsman David Miller but haven’t found any success apart from the solitary win against Rising Pune Supergiants.
Murali Vijay will take in-charge of the side from the away game that the Kings are to play on May 1 at Rajkot. It has not been the best of the tournaments for the 2014 runner ups, and the Kings are currently placed at the bottom of the points table.
The Kings XI Punjab were led by George Bailey in the last season but had a miserable run and couldn’t do anything significant in the tournament. Bailey, as a result, went unsold and the franchise named David Miller as their skipper at the beginning of this season. However, things didn’t turn out to be fruitful for the South African as the side could win just one match out of the six played so far.
Miller, on the personal front too, has been failing with the bat and has managed to score just 76 runs in 6 matches. For the Kings XI Punjab to succeed, a lot depends on their overseas duo of David Miller and Glenn Maxwell. With the role of skipper being given to Vijay, there are chances that Miller might bat a little more freely and get comfortable at the crease.
Murali Vijay, on the other hand, has had a reasonably decent stand, having scored 143 runs in 6 matches and has a half century under his belt too. Incidentally, Vijay was one of the preferred choices to lead the side before the tournament had kicked off. But the management went ahead with David Miller then.
Speculations also sparked after Miller skipped the post-match chat after their defeat against the Mumbai Indians.
