Australian opener and the stand-in skipper for T20I series David Warner has heaped praise on the Indian captain Virat Kohli for his leadership skills. India and Australia were involved in the intriguing battle over the last month during the ODI and T20I series. The hosts managed to win the 5-match series by 4-1 whereas the Kangaroos fared much better in the shortest format and drew the series by 1-1. The decider in the Hyderabad was abandoned due to the soggy outfield as the fans missed out on a cracker of a contest.
However, Warner has immensely impressed with the way Virat has led the side so far. He took over the mantle from MS Dhoni in January earlier this year and has won almost every series since then. He also became the first touring captain to win all the matches away when India whitewashed Sri Lanka in their own den across formats. Though, the team’s real test would be when they tour abroad, the first of which starts in January when they will travel to South Africa for 3 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is.
His passion for the game is fantastic
David Warner credited the leadership of the 28-year-old for the success of Men in Blue in last 12 months. He opined that Kohli steps up himself and fires his players to give their 100 percent on the field. “Fantastic last 12 months for India. Credit to Virat Kohli’s leadership. His passion for the game is fantastic. He’s a player who steps up and gets his players fired up,” he told India Today. Kohli and his men are now gearing up for the battle against New Zealand which will start from October 22.
Warner is now preparing himself for the upcoming huge Ashes series against England. Prior to that though all the national players would be involved in the Sheffield Shield season which is scheduled to start by the end of this month. The squad for the prestigious series is yet to be announced and it is expected that some of the surprising names would be picked based on the performances in the domestic season.
